Winter checklist for Truckers
Winters are approaching in United States and with their arrival truckers have to be more careful while driving on or off road. Preparations should be done before going for a long haul to stay protected and safe. Truckers are smart enough to take care of their own but they must have a checklist of essential things which they can check at the end.
This
checklist must be taken care while going out:
1. Heavy duty winter clothes – Extra warm
jacket, gloves, socks, hats, and waterproof boots.
2. Knee pads – They will helpful during truck maintenance,
like changing tires
3. Another pair of blankets – To protect
you from frostbite
4. Extra food and water – In time of
emergency
5. Flash lights – A flashlight with
bigger focus than normal one. It will help you while checking your truck or
changing tyre during night.
6. Chains – Make sure your chains fit
your tyres and must be of good quality.
7. Diesel gel – In heavy cold your
diesel may get cold use anti-gel additives to your tanks.
8. Take care of cell phones – Cell phone
batteries can be freeze in extreme cold. Make sure you should not keep it in
truck for long.
9. Watch for black ice – Look for the
ice build up on your wind shield. Slow down on bridges, shaded areas and
overpasses.
10. Keep ice scraper, kitty litter or
salt for transaction
Tips: Follow these tips while driving to keep yourself protected:
1. Always wear seat belt (most important)
2. Avoid hitting breaks suddenly
3. Be careful about trucks idling at extremely low temperatures
4. Get snow and ice off the shield for your own safety and others too
5. Stay alert and be mindful of current condition
6. Keep a distance of 20m from others vehicles for safety
7. Watch the warning signs and always follows safety signs
8. Keep your speed low and steady
